Abstract

Poskesri health volunteers serve as the frontline of primary healthcare at the nagari level; however, they rarely undergo routine health check-ups, as they prioritize serving the community over their own health needs. This community service initiative aimed to conduct body composition screening for the early detection of obesity and metabolic disorders among Poskesri health volunteers in Nagari Taeh Baruah, Payakumbuh District. The activity took place on July 30, 2026, and involved 14 female health volunteers (aged 26 – 71 years) who participated voluntarily. Body composition assessments were performed using the Omron KaradaScan HBF-375 – based on eight-electrode bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) – measuring body weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, visceral fat, resting metabolism, and body age. Data were analyzed descriptively and categorized according to WHO BMI thresholds for Asian populations. Results showed a mean BMI of 27.4 ± 4.7 kg/m², with 64% of participants classified as overweight; the mean body fat percentage was 35.6 ± 3.8% (above the healthy threshold), and half of the participants exhibited visceral fat levels exceeding the normal range. Correlation analysis revealed a strong relationship between BMI and body fat percentage (r = 0.87; p < 0.001). These findings underscore that health volunteers are also susceptible to nutritional issues and metabolic disorders if they lack opportunities for regular personal health screenings. The initiative successfully raised participants' awareness of their personal health status through BIA-based assessments.
